Conversion of OMS Discovery to Hyperbaric Diving Vessel
As part of construction work at the Puffin Field, the project needed an HRV – Hyperbaric Rescue Vessel – to act as standby vessel to the DSV Havila Harmony during the tie-in work.
Prior to start up, the vessel additionally was to be fitted with an ROV
to provide further subsea work capability during the final testing and
commissioning of the wells.
Naval Architects from Orwell Offshore undertook the design modifications
to the vessel to accommodate the ROV deck (originally designed and installed
on the Pacific Worker). They designed a static A-Frame which could be used
in conjunction with the onboard winches to recover the hyperbaric rescue
chamber in the event of an emergency.
