Holdback Mooring System

Orwell Offshore can offer concept, design and fabrication support for all types of mooring system. The growing use of FPSOs to operate on smaller, more challenging fields has led to engineering expertise in designing and operating suitable mooring arrangements, with a corresponding requirement for temporary holdback moorings.

Holdback mooring systems are an innovative solution to maintaining a vessel at a desired station without using main engines or dynamic positioning. Principally engineered as a solution to reduce fuel usage (with the associated economic cost and emissions), they also benefit the vessel in reducing machinery wear and vibration.

Each system is modelled using leading industrial software packages, including ARIANE-3D, OrcaFlex and Moses. This analysis allows the design to be created specifically to allow the vessel to move exactly as desired by the operator when connected to a holdback mooring.

Orwell Offshore has recently developed holdback designs for the cruise ship industry as well as FPSOs.
