Upgrade of Mauritania Import Terminal

Orwell Offshore investigated the feasibility of tanker moorings off the coastline of Mauritania, West Africa. MBM, CBM and SPM mooring systems were considered at the petroleum terminals located at Nouadhibou and Nouakchott.

Mooring arrangements were developed, capable of holding a range of tanker sizes from 6,000 DWT to 75,000 DWT at the terminals. Options to replace the existing deteriorating pipe-bridge stretching from the berthing point to the shore were developed, including the transition of pipe from beach to sea.

Floating hose arrangements between the shore and the tankers were developed a short distance away from the berthing terminals to ensure the operability of the terminal would not be compromised during the pipe-bridge re-build. During this transitional period, CBM (Conventional Buoy Moorings) would be used.
