Recovery and Repair of Riser System

Following a tropical cyclone off the coast of the Philippines, Orwell Offshore was involved in the recovery and repair of a damaged riser and umbilical. Using in-house expertise, Orwell determined the best method of recovery based on vessel availability. This included the transfer of the riser system from the FPSO to the installation support vessel and the riser replacement on the work deck of the ISV.

Following late changes in the vessels that were to be used, Orwell Offshore re-analysed and modified the procedures to suit operations, initially using the Bluestone Topaz which was converted to an ISV by Orwell Offshore, and subsequently working alongside Acergy on developing procedures using the ‘Toisa Proteus’. Following repair of the flexibles, further offshore support was provided onboard the FPSO and the Bluestone Topaz. This involved changing out isolation valves, performing ROV field surveys and reconnecting the mooring and riser system to the FPSO.

The final part of the repair schedule involved the development of procedures to recover the lower riser package from the seabed (290m) to the surface so that remedial corrosion repairs to a damaged hydraulic connection could be made. The repair used the support vessel, CSO Venturer to recover the LRP from the seabed, perform repairs and then stab it back into the riser base. In order to complete this series of operations Orwell Offshore continued to supply technical support.
